Greenscreen Tutorial
Green screen was created to give the illusion that someone is in a setting that they are actually not in. It allows people filming to be more creative and extravagant when it comes to deciding on locations to film. Personally i think that green screen is useful for capturing short filler shots; but i would never film the majority of narrative or performance elements using green screen, as i have always been able to notice where green screen has been used in past occasions, and i feel it limits the creativity one can have with camera angles, as distance from the green screen will always be a considerable factor.
In order to create the green screen effect using Final Cut you import the previously recorded video footage with the green screen as the background. You then have to select the small video effects bar at the top left hand corner of the tab and select keys; from here we selected keys and went down to chroma keyer, and select colour smoothing 4:1:1 before dragging this into our video file. You are then presented with a series of colours that you can remove from your frame using this program. We selected all tangents of green and clicked the frame until the majority of green is removed from the frame, and the imported picture shows where the green once was. This will be more successful if the picture selected is of high resolution and large size.

Image Annotation
After thoroughly researching the genre, we have learned that bands that belong to the indie rock genre tend to dress quite casually, with a modern twist. This is incredibly useful to us, as we can easily attain these items of clothing and therefore can replicate the Indie image. An extremely common visual element associated with the majority of Indie bands would be skinny/drain pipe jeans, therefore we will definitely include this in the performance elements of our music video.
While researching Indie fashion we also discovered that denim is a common feature of popular Indie Group's attire. This also conforms to the casual Indie look, as the faded denim gives this "worn/faded" appearance that matches our initial ideas. They are also incredibly affordable, and easy to attain. The other image shows perhaps a more sophisticated look, although it can also enhance the "worn" image. We are considering using a similar item as many ambient Indie Groups feature them and it conveys what we wish to represent.
The images below show footwear that we believe helps us as an audience distinguish a band as being part of the Indie Rock genre. This is incredibly practical as I actually possess a pair of Desert boots, and a pair of brown loafers can be easily attained. This combined with the previous elements would suggest to the audience that we are from the Indie genre, and that is obviously what we wish to convey.
The instruments below are typical instruments used by Indie Rock musicians, especially the Fender Telecaster. The implementation of hollow body guitars also adds an elegant look that conforms to the relatively smart attire of the band members. This is again incredibly practical as I own both of these particular models; and will distribute them to the band members during the filming stages. I feel that all of these elements will easily help us achieve the casual/smart Indie appearance we originally aimed to achieve.
Song Details
The Maccabees - Pelican
We have decided to use The Maccabees single Pelican for our music video. Initially we decided we wanted to use a song that had an ambient feel to it, as we want to express the element of youth, and the celebration of youth. This song has an incredibly simple pulse/beat (4/4). This is incredibly convenient as it means we can creatively add whatever we feel is necessary during the editing stages. The fact that the actual music is simple is also convenient to us, as it means that the actors will easily be able to mime the instrumental parts. Overall we just feel that this song ticks all the boxes for the original ambient, alternative indie rock elements we want to represent.

Initial Ideas
This is a combination of my groups initial ideas towards all aspects of creating our music video. We decided to choose the genre of Indie Rock as we all feel that we are incredibly familiar with indie rock music, and the bands of the genre. We also feel as though perhaps we could represent the genre of Indie Rock best; being as we are all young, and indie rock is about celebrating youth.
